Front end staff are extremely impersonal and cold. I showed up 5 minutes early to my appointment. Receptionist insisted I was 1 hour early. It was booked 1 year ago and I even had a confirmation call 2 days prior. Very unprofessional.
VERY rude reception!!! If you work in customer service of any kind--but especially medical, you need to be great with people and have high Emotional Intelligence! If you arent good with people &/or dont have high emotional intelligence than you need to find another job!! And the receptionists at Dr. Savage optometry off Elbow drive in Calgary are VERY rude! I dont understand how they still have a job! I cant comment on Dr. Savage as I have never seen him.
First time in this office Staff extremely rude. Drove across the city for my Moms follow up exam. Was told I could not wait in their expansive waiting room, where there were many many many open chairs. This is not a welcoming office in any shape or form. It felt like stepping back in time. The Dr may be skilled but the staff are absolutely dismal.
Some of the worst treatment I have ever had in a so called “professional” office. My dad goes here. He drives in from High River and my husband and I, who live in Calgary meet him there and I drive our car to High River and my husband drives dad in his car back to High River then my husband and I drive back to Calgary. My husband was told he would have to get out because the office was too full, so he had to sit in the car... I have more negative comments but am out of room... go elsewhere..
Dr. Savage is excellent, office staff is terrible-rude, short, unprofessional! I have NO idea if he knows how his staff treats people! I came in with husband, went out to the car and was then not allowed to join my husband, eventhough I could SEE him sitting there! I came to pick him up and was DENYED entry because I had two children with me. I asked why, she whspered some people arent ALLOWED to be around children. Really? I thought I heard wrong and asked pardon, she repeated it. Seriously?
he is one of the best eye specialist I've known..I'm very happy with his ethics and would recommend him to my friends.....

I had a detached retina 5 years ago. Dr. Savage performed my surgery and I am so blessed he was on call that day. The follow up in the last 5 years has been incredible. His clinic is professional and ultra efficient. Last night I went to emergency for signs in my other eye. They had me call Dr Savage this morning for follow up. His office bent over backwards to accommodate me. Although I have only ever met lovely people there, my focus and theirs is my eyesight. Nothing else matters.
I go to a lot of great specialists in Calgary and Dr. Savage is one of the best. He not only knows what he is doing but he deals with you in a very pleasant manner. I would recommend him to anyone as one of the best doctors in Calgary. A very satisfied patient and after nearly 20 years, I know what I am talking about..
I am moving and asked for my annual check up before I leave or for a referral in the town I'm moving to. I got repeatedly told they could do nothing for me, then hung up on when I asked to talk to someone more senior who could help with my questions. I called my old retina specialist in Saskatoon. They haven't seen me in years but they politely and professionally told me what to do. Dr. Savage is fine but this kind of unprofessionalism in a healthcare practice is unacceptable. Go elsewhere.
Dr Savage's clinic runs like a clock. Waiting times are minimal. He answers you questions in any detail that one is capable of understanding. I have heard stories about some of the staff, but I've found them all to be competent and friendly. I suppose it is all in the way you approach them.
Dr. Savage is a very adept and compassionate doctor and I feel that to bring his rating down because of his staff is unfair to him and to you the reader. If you have retinal or cataract issues then this is the man for you. He is very knowledgeable and is organized and surgery in his hands (having gone through cataract surgery) is quick and very good. He keeps a close eye on his patient's care and ensures you are taken care of. The bits about his staff and wife are not fiction...beware!
the worst office staff I have every dealt with, after being hung up on multiple times, just trying to get a question answered, them screaming at me, so incredibly unprofessional, rude and just plain mean. I sure the Dr has no idea how his patients are being treated. The entire office staff should be fired, don't go to this office, terrible, terrible place!
