“I was three when I saw the picture of a Highland dancer while shopping with my mom in Safeway,” says Dawn Moss, owner of Celtic Ceilidh Dance Academy. “I decided I wanted to do that, and I have been dancing since then.”
Following the cultural heritage of her parents, Dawn first learned Highland dancing, but has since branched off into other types of dance. “For Highland dancing, my teacher taught a handful of us out of her basement, just on concrete floors. A lot of other dancers grew up that way,” she recalls. “Also, Irish and Highland dance do not always agree, so you had to attend two different places for both styles.”
