Stepping into Julie Gordon’s eponymously named bookstore, J.H. Gordon Books, is every bibliophile’s dream. From the sunlight streaming into the 11-foot ceiling space illuminating the endless span of book spines, to the artwork adorning the walls in Baroque period frames, one feels transported into a home library befitting the 20th century.
Modelled after Julie’s favourite bookstore in Boston, J.H. Gordon Books specializes in classic literature, memorable fiction, academic non-fiction, children’s books and new and emerging authors. “I have the essentials, timeless books that everyone should read,” Julie says of carrying Camus, Sartre, Hemingway, Vonnegut and other notables.
On her frequent excursions to source books at estate sales, university bookstore sales, and even the U.S., Julie will often purchase an entire collection of the same author if she knows that her customers will be thrilled by the tomes.
