“When we were both 21, our dad helped us out with a loan; then he took a step back and told us if we ran into trouble, he’d be there for advice,” recalls Terry Haros, owner of Twin Image Hairdressing, alongside (you guessed it) twin brother Nick. While the brothers know Dad’s always around for tips, they’ve been doing pretty well on their own, opening their first Danforth location in 1999 followed by a second hair salon in the Beaches.
Still, both brothers credit dad Peter with the backbone of their success. “He came to Canada from Greece as an immigrant when he was 15 and started barbering,” Terry says. “Eventually he became one of the first hair professionals in Toronto to open a salon for men and women, which was a big move at the time – before that they’d been segregated. Growing up in the trade, I always wanted to follow my dad’s footsteps and Nick felt the same way.”
