Upbeat, practical, sympathetic and, like any true teacher, ready to push you to do your best at your own pace, Valerie Bastien is enthusiastic about teaching vocal technique for all styles of singing. Jazz, pop, rock and even heavy metal singers come through her Voice Yourself doors where she works on breathing, posture, tone and voice placement to release a strong voice and find one’s natural, dynamic and pure tone.
“I can apply the techniques I teach to all singing styles,” she says. “It’s like dancing. We do not have dancing feet and walking feet; we only have one set of feet. Singing is similar in the way that we only have one set of vocal cords. Therefore, singing is an extension of speaking and not so different,” says Valerie.
